Summary: Highly motivated Applications Engineer to lead the LaserSharp Equipment team in coordinating the planning, design, and installation of machinery and equipment, and projects leading to contract manufacturing and equipment retrofit projects in an industrial environment, using knowledge of engineering and programming as well as various instruments and computers.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs process engineers to ensure product and process testing is adequately done.
  • Works with distributors and manufacture representatives, Sales department and customers to develop technical product and equipment specifications that are clear and achievable.
  • Responsible for applying costing and process design strategies to position the company in the early stages of project development to increase the probability of success.
  • Develops clear and achievable factory and site acceptance criteria with the customer.
  • Communicates and documents the final equipment specifications, product and process specifications to the internal LasX team. 
  • Consults throughout the design process to ensure specifications & requirements are accurately met.
  • Consults through assembly and functional setup of the equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Conducts and/or leads all equipment process testing to ensure full functionality of the machine.
  • Conducts and/or leads 'Factory Acceptance Testing' with the customer to demonstrate proper functionality and processing capabilities.
  • Communicates requirements to Field Service Technician to ensure requirements are clear.
  • Conducts and leads 'Site Acceptance Testing' at the customer site to demonstrate proper functionality and processing capabilities, seeking final signoff from the customer.
  • Responsible for all on-site customer training transferring adequate software and equipment knowledge to the customer.
  • Responsible for managing any outstanding technical or operational issues that exist post installation.
  • May be responsible for additional paid process related work at customer site.
     

Qualifications:

  • Extensive product knowledge required.  Knowledge of products and product lines. Able to represent the features and benefits of the products in terms a customer will understand. Knowledge of how the
  • product functions and the technology used.
  • Extensive knowledge of laser modules, optics and laser processing capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Extensive understanding of equipment platforms, software, and automation platforms 

Additional Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering with 2-5 years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical/electrical interest and aptitude.
  • Ability to read electrical and machine schematics.
  • Strong customer facing skills and focus; demonstrate active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop & maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
     

Physical Requirements:

  • Extensive time on the computer, phone or in direct communications.
  • Travel to supplier and customer facilities. 10-20% travel expected for this position
